Heading out tomorrow to pick up a 1986 Honda 200x for a price so good it gets me quite hot and steamy!
1986 and 1987 are the “Holy Grail” bikes for Honda ATC collectors. Even though Honda knew the days of the Trike were just about over they went ahead and did a ground up redesign on them for 1986. A completely new 200cc engine with automatic relief at startup, a new 6 speed gearbox, an increase in suspension travel and a new stronger box tube frame made these as over-engineered as a W201 Merc.
When Honda said goodbye to the machines that put them on top in the ATV world they did it right !

I don’t know what condition it’s in, but please make sure it rocks that amazingly 80s red, white ‘n blue paint scheme!

I can’t find the picture, but someone in my Trail 70 group is turning theirs into a trike, because apparently the factory ones just weren’t dangerous enough. The ATCs are incredibly cool though, and I’m very jealous of your collection.

Turning a Trail 70 into a trike? Oof. That has to tick off some purists.
Thanks but don’t be jealous. They’re all up for sale as soon as I cut a deal on them. Some never even made it home. This 86 is the first long term machine.
I’ll get my two wheelers soon. The CT70, QA50, Z50, and Fat Cat are all on my hit list.

How many of these wretched machines do you have?

They made so damn many CT70s that most people don’t get too worked up over what happens to them, although at the same time there aren’t nearly enough custom builds. I’m kinda leaning towards a cafe/rat thing with mine but progress is slow because I’m lazy.
Hey, whatever works for you. Take some pics along the way, it’ll be neat. Can they be made road legal where you are, or is that verboten?
Do a Z50 cafe. Be one of the cool kids.

Wretched? You misspelled Awesome.
I try to limit my QOH to four at any point. It’s gone as high as eight but that was because I was waiting for some of them to be picked up.

I think the CT was road legal here. Didn’t they have a plate holder and turn indicators?
Illinois is odd on three wheelers. Some get titled as cars and some as bikes. I need a loophole.

No harm. There’s a genuine market for these things and I love playing with them. I won’t get rich off of them but I will have fun.

No turn indicators, but it does have a plate holder. MI is pretty lax on bikes so all you need is a headlight, tail light and a seat, basically.
Seems a little odd that you’d be able to rego it as a car at all, as far as I know all three wheelers fall under motorcycles around here.

You’d have to Reg as a custom or kit. But you can’t start with a trike frame. You need to start with a street legal frame and build from that.
I think the CT gets a pass here because you can use hand signals.

A buddy of mine back in middle/highschool picked up a Kawi tecate.. that thing was a blast and surprisingly quick as hell. Being that he lived on a farm (not a garden like, a thousand acre dairy farm) there was no shortage of places to take it out.

Huh, is it some sort of VIN/title issue?
The biggest issue I’m facing is that I don’t actually have the title for the bike, since it was pulled out of a horse barn a few years back, but I think there’s a fairly simple process for getting a reissue.

With trikes it’s like trying to get a dirt bike titled as an Enduro or “ADV”. It might happen but you’ll get caught.
The lost title stuff shouldn’t be too bad. In Iowa all it took was two forms and a visit from either the State Police or DNR.

Ah, makes sense.
And yeah, it doesn’t look to be that much. I just have to bring in an appraisal of the bike valuing at less than $2500 (and they accept NADA/KBB, so that’s easy) and there’s a form to fill out.

Of course I had to look at my local classifieds and there’s a few for under $1000, man it’s tempting but out here in the city I don’t think there’s much use for one lol.

Plenty of fun to be had in the city on one. Well, depending on what City. It helps to be Semi rural.

Haha don’t persuade me! Also I’m in Toronto, so not rural at all :(
At least I will be kept safe from the wrath of the ATC.

My buddy had one of these and it would scare me shitless when I rode it.
Of course, I didn’t have a helmet or any other protective gear but when you’re young........you think you’ll live forever.

Awesome, I grew up on an ATC70. I really need to get our LT250R quad put back together and go to Waynoka again.
